American Petroleum Institute

State of American Energy

Problem:

COVID shut down API’s biggest event of the year and limited the ability to bring the industry’s story to policymakers.

Solution:

POOLHOUSE captured voices from across the country and turned them into a virtual program built to reach influencers and decision-makers nationwide.

Outcome:

A 1-hour program became 15+ content assets, 50,000+ views, and global reach across 53 countries.

Problem

For years, API’s State of American Energy event was a closed-door keynote in Washington, reaching the same policy insiders year after year. When COVID canceled in-person gatherings, API needed a new way to reach decision-makers and tell a story about American energy that could break through at a national scale during a moment of uncertainty.

Solution

POOLHOUSE reimagined the event as a dynamic, one-hour virtual experience featuring diverse voices, on-site testimonials, and a future-focused roundtable. We produced 15+ short-form content pieces from the program to bring their stories to life, show the industry’s impact in communities and highlight the real people behind the industry.

Outcome

The event reached 1,448 livestream viewers across 53 countries, captured 2,295 new emails, and drove 50,000+ organic video views. The one-hour program drew the largest audience ever for API, with thousands tuning in and thousands more engaging with the breakout content. With 15 separate videos cut from the event and tailored for organic and paid media, API gained a library of content for advertising and content to spread their message long after the livestream ended.
